The Latest News on Plans for Austin’s Rosewood Courts

Much has happened since we submitted the Rosewood Choice Neighborhoods Plan to HUD in 2015!

Over the last three years, we have worked closely with the preservation community to make progress toward improvements for Rosewood Courts. With the support of Council Member Ora Houston, Preservation Austin, Mid Tex Mod, and other key stakeholders, HACA proposed the creation of a new eight-building historic district for Rosewood Courts that has been unanimously approved by the City of Austin’s Historic Landmark Commission, Planning Commission, and City Council.

We couldn’t have done this successfully without the overwhelming support and passionate testimonials from the families who call Rosewood Courts home!

A large group of Rosewood residents and other stakeholders attended all three meetings at City Hall to share their experiences about living at Rosewood, and to give first-hand perspectives about how future redevelopment at the property would significantly improve residents’ quality of life.

The city’s approval of HACA’s updated Rosewood preservation plan will allow the agency to honor the property’s historical significance while also making meaningful improvements for current and future residents. The new Rosewood Courts redevelopment plan will ultimately create approximately 200 modern affordable housing units and 10 to 15 first-time homeownership houses for qualified working HACA families.
